After yesterday's performance, Ellie had meant to start the day with a de-brief for Marcus - what he should have done, how to mend the situation. But really, any frostiness between them was mistaken tension - nervous tension, for the competition-filled day ahead. In fact, nobody actually spoke to each other until Pod made an appearance.

"Has somebody died?" He asked as he climbed into the box, removing his flat cap in mocking reverence.

"Marcus' chances with Jemima." Ellie muttered out of the corner of her mouth as she inhaled the fumes of her third black coffee that morning.

Pod sniggered, "D'awwww, is that what all that was before you guys went to bed? Daft arses." He chuckled, as he made up a coffee of his own. "Both horses are all groomed, Ellie you're on in an hour, Marcus you're on in two."

The riders chorused their thanks, albeit somewhat mutedly, before getting up and changed. Pod whistled a long, downwards glissando as they left, "'S'gonna be a long one."

"You look reaaaaaaaaally funny." Marcus said to Ellie as she walked off for the warmup.

"Shut up, Socially Inept."

"I mean, reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally funny. Um, I think the gymkhana's tomorrow?" He chuckled, ducking as Ellie swiped at him.

"Just shut up. If I ignore it, it'll go away." Ellie hissed back.

"How did you manage this one?" Marcus asked. "I mean, when Rose escaped that time it was cause you forgot how to tie a quick release knot, when you brought Laura's boots instead of your own that was cause you hadn't put your contacts in...what's your excuse this time?"

"I knew I had some form of show kit in my bag. I just forgot it was a combined training show kit rather than an ODE show kit, from the CT Laura and I did last week." Marcus snorted as he laughed. "Quit it! You're so horrible when you're being facetious."

"That's the general idea..." Marcus said. "Fine. It's not that bad. That's just karma for the boot to the head last night." He told Ellie solemnly as she entered the warm up ring.

Ellie stuck her tongue out as she rode away, in that most mature fashion she managed so well.
